FLUNITRAZEPAM (ROHYONOL)

Slang or Street Names: Roofies, Rophies, Roche, Forget-Me
History: Used in foreign countries as a pre-surgical sedative and in the treatment of severe sleep disorders. Rohypnol® is the brand name for Flunitrazepam and is marketed by Roche Pharmaceuticals. Legally available in Mexico, South America and Europe, it is not approved for prescription use in the United States.
Identification: Rohypnol is generally taken orally in pill form, but can be crushed and snorted or dissolved in a beverage.
Effects: Use of the drug can cause amnesia, causing the user to not remember events participated in while under the influence. Other effects include decreased blood pressure, drowsiness, visual disturbances, dizziness, confusion, gastrointestinal disturbances, and urinary retention.
