History: Heroin is a semi-synthetic narcotic that comes from the Papaver Somniferum, commonly known as the poppy plant.

Identification: Heroin is mostly available in tan to white powder, which can be snorted, swallowed or injected.

Effects: The Physical and Psychological effects of heroin use include euphoria, nausea, contstricted pupils, restlessness, constipation, sedation, decreased heart rate, and breathing, respiratory failure and death. Heroin affects the central nervous system as a depressant and pain killer.
