COCAINE

Slang or Street Names: Blow, Powder, White, Coke, Cane
History: Cocaine was first used in the 1800's as an anesthetic. Extracted from the leaves of the Erythroxylon Coca Bush grown in South America, it is the most potent stimulant of a natural origin. Abuse and adverse side affects caused the drug to be restricted in 1906.
Identification: Cocaine is available as either a powder or base form. Cocaine in powder form can be snorted, injected or taken orally. Cocaine Base, commonly reffered to as "Crack" is smoked.
Effects: The Physical and Psychological effects of cocaine use include euphoria, loss of appetite, dilated pupils,paranoia and an increase in heart rate and blood pressure.
